ThelastCavalierMk2tobeproducedwastheCavalierCalibre.BasedontheSRi130withstylingfromAstonMartin/Tickfordandthebodykit,sportssuspensionandexhaustbeingproducedbyIrmscher,itwasalimitedproductionrunofonly500cars.Theideaofthe CalibrecameduringtherunoutoftheCavalierMk2.Vauxhall/OpelhadsurplusSaloonbodyshellswhichtheyhadtomove.IrmscherUKwereinvolvedwithfittingalongwithTickfordthecarcamewithaveryhighspecificationincludingatripcomputer,recaroseats, powerwindowsandpowersteering.Itcostaround£13,000whenreleasedin1987.ThismodeldifferedslightlyinGermanywhereitwassoldastheAsconaSprint.ThedifferenceswherethatitcamewithanIrmscherSteeringwheel,whereasintheUKtheCalibre hadthestandardCavalierwheel.TheseatswereRallyTwillwhereastheCalibrehadChicagovelourtrim.AnditwasalsoavailableinPolarWhiteandAstroSilveralongwiththeCarmineRed.TheCalibrewasjustavailableinCarmineRed.Therewerealsolight differencesinenginesinGermanyastheSprintstartedwiththe20NEthenwenttotheC20NEand20SEH.TocauseevenmoreconfusionthecarwasalsoavailableinSwitzerlandwhereitwasnotbadgedSprintbuti200,thereasonforthiswasthatamodelusingthe Sprintnamewasalreadyonsale.ThespecificationandcolourswerethesameastheSprintbutthei200hadthefollowingadditionsFogHeadlights,heightadjustabilityonthedriver’sseat,the2.0i(C20NE)enginehadacatalyticconverterandtintedglass.Thereare believed to be 1399 Ascona Sprints produced and 879 Ascona i200’.
